SIA Names Geoff Kohl as Director of Marketing

Security Industry Association (SIA)

Silver Spring, Md. — The Security Industry Association (SIA) today announced the hire of Geoff Kohl as senior director of marketing. Kohl will be responsible for delivering strategic marketing direction to expand the awareness of SIA and its product and service offerings.

Kohl first entered the security industry in 2004 to launch SecurityInfoWatch.com as its founding editor-in-chief and associate publisher and went on to serve as editorial director of Cygnus Security Group, the then publisher of SecurityInfoWatch.com, Security Dealer & Integrator magazine and Security Technology Executive magazine. In 2011, he founded the Secured Cities conference to provide a top-tier educational program and networking event for professionals involved in all facets of urban security.

“Geoff’s interest in technology, experience within the security industry, initiative and commitment to developing new and creative marketing approaches will enable SIA to communicate its value proposition even more effectively to our existing membership and potential members. As Geoff has noted, compelling content drives winning marketing strategies,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “I look forward to Geoff both leading our marketing efforts and contributing to an enhanced SIA content strategy that delivers on our promise to serve as a catalyst for our members’ success.

“I also wish to thank Kim Landgraf, Mickey McCarter and Byron Haugabook for their professionalism and contributions over the many months prior to Geoff’s hiring. We are thrilled to continue to have their valuable contributions as part of this stellar marketing team led by Geoff,” Erickson added.

“I’m pleased to join the Security Industry Association and excited about contributing to the overall awareness of SIA and to the highly respected activities of this team,” Kohl said.

Prior to joining SIA in 2016, Kohl served as the chief travel editor for Morris Media Network’s Where magazine brand. He provided content strategy and led a global editorial team focused on growing the brand’s consumer audience and digital reach in the competitive travel media space.

Kohl holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Mississippi and Bachelor’s degrees in English and Philosophy from the University of the South.
