SIA New Member Profile: HighlandTech

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member HighlandTech is a full-service artificial intelligence (AI) automation agency. The company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, primarily serving the U.S. market but equipped to support global projects as well.
SIA spoke with Don Morron, founder and CEO of HighlandTech, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.
Tell us the story of your company.

Don Morron: HighlandTech builds AI agents to automate business workflows.
As an agency and authorized reseller for Microsoft, IBM and Google, we specialize in creating digital workforces that eliminate repetitive and mundane tasks. Our founder brings 12 years of hands-on experience in the physical security industry, giving us a deep understanding of the needs of end users, integrators and manufacturers alike.
What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings or your company unique?
DM: HighlandTech specializes in custom AI software development using low-code tools from Microsoft and Google, making AI agent creation more affordable for physical security businesses. Our AI agents automate repetitive and mundane tasks, helping companies build their own digital workforce. Not sure what an AI agent is? Think of it as a smarter, more capable AI that gets things done for you. Right now, HighlandTech is the only AI automation agency dedicated to serving the physical security industry.
What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?
DM: HighlandTech has developed a virtual reality application designed specifically for remote security operations teams, providing a more engaging and productive team environment than traditional remote calls. In addition, HighlandTech hosts the physical security industry’s only AI-focused podcast, AI PHYSEC TODAY.
What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?
DM: HighlandTech’s vision aligns with Big Tech’s push to integrate AI into everyday work. In the future, everyone will have an AI companion, like Copilot, and every business workflow will be powered by AI agents. People will transition from performing tasks themselves to orchestrating single agents, multiple agents and eventually managing entire agent ecosystems. Now is the time to start building AI-driven workforces to stay competitive and relevant in the years ahead.
What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?
DM: HighlandTech sees the greatest opportunity in the security industry as refocusing people on what truly matters – building relationships and driving innovation, yet too much time is wasted on repetitive, mundane tasks. AI Agents can significantly reduce or even eliminate these inefficiencies, allowing professionals to do the work that requires human insight and creativity.
What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?
DM: HighlandTech predicts that in the short term, businesses will turn to AI to reduce inefficiencies but will struggle to bridge the gap between identifying problems and deploying AI agents to solve them. This is where HighlandTech comes in. Long-term, fully autonomous agents will become the norm for specific tasks—provided businesses partner with an agency like HighlandTech to close that gap and drive seamless AI adoption.
What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others in the security industry?
DM: Fostering an innovative mindset. The security industry is traditionally conservative – and for good reason; however, every company must strike a balance, maintaining a healthy risk tolerance for adopting new technologies that solve real problems and drive progress.
What do you enjoy most about being at your company – and in the security industry?
DM: I’m deeply passionate about HighlandTech’s mission and feel a strong responsibility to help the security industry transition into the AI era. By adopting AI agent workforces, businesses can automate repetitive and mundane workflows, unlocking new levels of efficiency and innovation.
