SIA Statement on FCC Proceeding on GPS Alternatives

The Security Industry Association commends the Federal Communications Commission’s commitment to protecting America’s economic and national security and exploring alternatives to GPS. But it is critical to recognize the essential value of security and life-saving technologies to protect homes, small businesses and critical infrastructure.

While there is a wide array of PNT alternative technologies that can serve as a backup to GPS, we look forward to providing information to the Commission about tradeoffs among these emerging PNT offerings and encouraging the Commission to avoid taking action that could disproportionately disrupt valuable public safety technologies.
