The company is headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, with sales offices in Kansas City, Missouri, and Boston, Massachusetts, and ships to destinations across North America.

SIA spoke with Stephanie Olynick, national sales director at Wallace Perimeter Security, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Stephanie Olynick: Originally founded as a fencing contractor in 1946, Wallace Perimeter Security has spent the last two decades building a reputation as an innovative manufacturer of fast, reliable, high-quality folding gates now installed at over 1,000 sites across North America.

Our automated gates and fences protect critical infrastructure such as airports, correctional facilities, seaports and industrial sites. From dense urban environments to remote, challenging terrain, our solutions are trusted to perform under the most demanding conditions. Wallace’s folding gates, sliding gates and welded wire fences are built to withstand everything from severe weather to high-impact use making them the preferred choice for a wide range of security applications.

In 2025, Wallace Perimeter Security joined ASSA ABLOY, a global leader in access solutions. This partnership has accelerated our growth and broadened our ability to deliver cutting-edge perimeter security technologies to new industries and regions worldwide.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings or your company unique?

SO: At Wallace Perimeter Security, we specialize in providing advanced solutions for perimeter security, designed to protect people, property and critical infrastructure. For over 75 years, we’ve been a trusted partner in the security industry, offering innovative, reliable and durable products that go beyond the ordinary to deliver peace of mind.

We focus on three primary product lines, tailored to meet a wide range of security needs:

  1. Folding Gates: Our folding gates are engineered for flexibility and strength. They provide quick, secure access control while maximizing space efficiency. These gates are perfect for applications requiring frequent opening and closing, such as industrial facilities, parking lots and storage areas.
  2. Sliding Gates: For areas that demand robust security and seamless operation, our cantilever sliding gates offer an ideal solution. Designed for high usage and harsh conditions, these trackless gates combine smooth operation with unmatched durability, ensuring reliability in even the most demanding environments.
  3. Rampart Welded Wire Fence Panels: Our welded wire fences provide a strong, low-maintenance barrier for protecting perimeters without compromising visibility. What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

SO: In March 2025, Wallace Perimeter Security entered an exciting new chapter with its acquisition by ASSA ABLOY, a global leader in access solutions. This partnership marks a significant milestone in our journey and underscores our commitment to innovation in the security industry. But beyond the headline, there’s more to this story – a behind-the-scenes transformation that is setting the stage for an even brighter future.

The acquisition by ASSA ABLOY is more than a business transaction – it’s a powerful endorsement of Wallace Perimeter Security’s expertise, innovation and potential. With this partnership, we’re not only building on our legacy, but also redefining what’s possible in perimeter security.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

SO: At Wallace Perimeter Security, our vision is to be the global leader in perimeter protection, delivering innovative solutions that safeguard what matters most. Our goal is to set new standards in the security industry by designing smarter, more durable and reliable products that provide peace of mind. What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

SO: The security industry is poised for significant growth through advancements in technology and evolving customer needs. One of the biggest opportunities lies in smart security solutions, such as Internet of Things-enabled systems, artificial intelligence-driven analytics and automated perimeter management, which allow for real-time monitoring and control. Sustainability in security is also a growing focus, with opportunities to develop eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient designs. Additionally, the increasing demand for integrated solutions – combining physical barriers with cybersecurity – offers a chance to provide comprehensive protection for critical infrastructure. As industries and infrastructures continue to modernize, companies that can deliver innovative, reliable and scalable security solutions stand to make a lasting impact.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

SO: For a short term, the security industry will see increased adoption of smart technologies based on AI, a focus on integrating physical and cybersecurity, demand for customizable solutions, and a push for sustainability.

Thinking in long-term trends include the rise of AI-driven systems, global standardization for better interoperability, growth in emerging markets and innovation to address evolving threats like drone intrusions and advanced cyberattacks. Companies that prioritize technology, sustainability and customer needs will lead the industry’s evolution.  

What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others in the security industry?

SO: The biggest challenge for our company is ensuring that our service commitments keep pace with company growth.  As with any growing company finding, training and keeping skilled people is a challenge.

What do you enjoy most about being at your company – and in the security industry?

SO: We derived immense pride from the purpose, not only of our company, but also of the security industry generally to protect people and property. To be part of this industry and to be fortunate enough to make products that directly impact quality and safety of life are very affirming.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

SO: As a company specializing in perimeter security solutions, we believe we’ll benefit from SIA’s comprehensive offerings, particularly in terms of access to the latest industry standards, trends and cutting-edge technologies. SIA’s focus on promoting innovation, education and collaboration within the security industry aligns with our commitment to continuous improvement and staying ahead of market demands. We believe membership will provide valuable networking opportunities with other industry leaders, access to research and insight into regulatory changes. 

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

SO: We expect to leverage SIA’s resources, industry insights, training programs and networking opportunities. Over this year, we plan to deepen our involvement by participating in SIA-sponsored events, such as trade shows and conferences, to showcase our products and connect with industry leaders.
