Letter of Support for the FUTURE of Artificial Intelligence Act

On May 22, 2018, the Security Industry Association expressed strong support for H.R. 4625; S. 2217, the FUTURE of Artificial Intelligence Act of 2017, which directs the secretary of commerce to establish the Federal Advisory Committee on the Development and Implementation of Artificial Intelligence.

In letters to U.S. Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) and U.S. Sens. Maria Cantwell (WA) and Todd Young (IN), SIA CEO Don Erickson praised the bill, which creates an advisory committee within the U.S. Department to study how the United States can foster growth in artificial intelligence technologies and that will increase U.S. competitiveness and public- and private-sector involvement. SIA believes the legislation correctly recognizes that these goals can be met through non-regulatory means which incentivize SIA member companies to expand investments in artificial intelligence research and development.
